Getting Close

Ludington Michigan

The weather this week has been great. Temperatures have been warmer than in such a long time and expected to be better this weekend. The sun shining and warm breeze makes me think of those up north vacations. I can’t wait to spend time north.

Can found on the beach. Back when you had to actually use a can opener to enjoy your beer.

Lake Michigan

Lake MichiganThe sun was trying to shine between storm clouds on this cloudy day in September. One of the things I love about Lake Michigan is how clear the water is on a calm day but on a windy day it’s murky. I don’t particularly care for murky water so I stayed on the shore.

UNIDENTIFIED SEA CREATURE WASHES ASHORE IN MICHIGAN!

Beach CreatureSo the heading is a bit dramatic and a lie. This “creature” is my youngest son though sometimes he acts only partially human.

This photo was taken over the summer on the shores of Lake Michigan in Ludington. We covered him in sand while discussing CreepshowĀ and suggesting he hold his breath. It sounds morbid I know but it was of course all in good (guy) humor.

In truth there was less than a foot of sand over him allowing for an easy escape. The end result looked more like something washed up on the shore rather than a scene from the movie.

Dune Grass

Despite the clouds it was hot on this day, in the 80’s. We were swimming in Lake Michigan and walking, actually more like running because of the hot sand, back to the truck. There was a patch of grass to stand on for a break from the burning of our feet. This was in Ludington Michigan over the summer when I took the boys north for a long weekend.

Ludington is one of those places that you really love to visit but then after a couple days I guess you kind of experience everything and just move on. Over the years I’ve been back a handful of times but we usually just head straight north to the Traverse City area for vacation and pass the Ludington area up. I took the boys up there twice and the girls once over the summer. All three times were as fun as I’ve ever had on the trip there. We were spontaneous with our plans just going wherever we wanted each day.

I believe when life is coming to a close there are things you will regret and things you will be grateful for. Spending time with those you love is one of those things you won’t regret.
