Watch your step.

Two years ago while hiking along a trail in Phoenix I walked within inches of two rattlesnakes without knowing it. It wasn’t until someone up ahead mentioned that they saw snakes on the trail that we doubled back and saw them tucked next to a large rock. My friend warned me to keep my eyes open for snakes while we hiked but I guess I was too busy taking in the view of the mountains to notice what was right at my feet.

As we stood there looking at the snakes a few other people gathered with us as we tried to encourage the snakes to leave but they were content there and didn’t want to move. The problem was the trail was popular and there was fairly steady stream of people walking along who might get even closer than I did. We stuck around and warned people until the snakes moved away.

I learned a lesson that day. Pay attention to where you are going and be aware of your surroundings. I think that lesson is a good one for all paths.

Cloudy SkySun Rays

Black and White Sunset

The sun shines bright in Arizona but sometimes there are cloudy days. Even with the clouds the sun shines bright. I see this as a lesson in life. Today is a cloudy day for me in terms of current life events that I can’t control. I could focus on those clouds or I could be thankful for life and the fact that the sun will still continue to shine.

Arizona Sunset

The sun setting in Arizona. As time goes on, things are finalizing, I think more about Arizona and how I’ve always felt drawn to the desert. It’s in my mind to head out there for a long while making it my home. A friend of mine moved there at least seven years ago and has always encouraged me to visit and make it my home. There are things that keep me grounded in Michigan so this will remain my own for a while at least.

Superstition Mountains

Superstition MountainsTwo years ago I was fortunate enough to visit a friend of mine who moved from Michigan to Arizona. Because of work, kids and things it’s not always easy to get away but I’ve managed to visit him twice so far. He loves hiking as much as I do so there’s never a shortage of places to go.

On my second visit we went on our first hike right after he picked me up from the airport. As soon as I arrived we went to Superstition Mountains and hiked for a few hours. As much as I love Michigan vacations there’s something about Arizona that draws me in and makes me feel like I belong there.

Devil’s Bridge

Arizona Devil's BridgeA couple of years ago I visited a friend in Arizona. One of our adventures was in Sedona where we hiked a few trails, one of the trails took us to Devil’s Bridge. The natural bridge can be walked across but being afraid of heights I stuck to the side while everyone else, including some kids, walked right out there for a photo.

The thing I thought about was this bridge will likely one day break. With the number of visitors this spot gets I can’t help but wonder if when it breaks there will be people standing on it. That thought was on my mind when my friends talked me into walking out to the center. The photo was taken and I went back to the sidelines.

Last year while on vacation in Arizona I went on several hikes. This photo was taken at Thunderbird Conservation Park in Glendale. It was my third visit to Arizona and as always I was impressed with the wild life around the trails.

Couple Walking

Last year I visited a friend in Arizona and we took a day trip to Sedona. The red rock formations there are truly an amazing thing to see.
