Hummingbird
These are quick and skittish too.
Tree
The tree population at Matthaei Botanical Gardens has thinned out in part I believe caused by invasive species like the Emerald Ash Borer. My first visit to the gardens was 20 years ago when the trees were plentiful and healthy. It saddens me now to walk around and see so many dead trees and open space.
I’ve always felt drawn to the woods even as a kid. Growing up I was fortunate to live near a forest and would play there often. After reading a book called The Hollowing by Robert Holdstock I felt a stronger pull from the woods. Driving down any country road I see the dark entrance to a forest as a magical place.
This image was taken early in the year when the limbs are bare on most trees still.
Busy Bee
Another bee busy doing his thing at Matthaei Botanical Gardens
Butterfly
Ann Arbor Matthaei Botanical Gardens. These butterflies were not afraid of me. I was able to walk right up with no problem.
Flower
Botanical gardens in Ann Arbor is my favorite place for insect/flower photos.
Lefurge Woods Nature Preserve
The nature trail was hot today and these flowers look almost like they are melting.
