mirror mirror

Not one to toot my horn but damn I feel good, physically, and I don’t think I’ve been in this good of shape in years. It’s always been relatively easy for me to shed fat but starting to and sticking with exercise has always been the problem for me, I just get tired of it. But I’ve been going pretty steady with it for a while now and continue to see decent results. Joining the gym is definitely a good decision as I know the bowflex in my basement would never keep me at it for more than a month or two. Something about seeing all those big guys at the gym motivates me to push harder. I mean that in a very heterosexual way.

Today I was shaving and out of the corner of my eye I see this round bicep with a large vein running along it. For a moment I was caught off guard by it and had to do a double take. Of course I had to do the man thing and flex in front of the mirror a few times while giving the Incredible Hulk grin.

Next week I plan to workout Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

snow and grass

I’m a lazy bastard for sure. Last year I hired someone to cut my grass once a week knowing damn well I could have found the time to get outside and do it myself. But for fear of having the “hillbilly” house on the block I figured having it done for $25 is the better option. I have to admit though it was weird being in my house doing nothing in particular while these guys are out in my yard doing what should be my job.  Like a little bitch hiding behind the blinds I waited for them to finish before I looked outside to see if they did it right. I have a weedwacker and alright lawnmower so this year I’m saving the $100 a month and getting my ass outside. Besides I love the sunshine and sweat that comes with those hot Summer days.

Now concerning shoveling snow that’s a job that just sucks all the way around. There’s nothing enjoyable about going out in the cold working over your back to shovel snow when I know damn well it’s going to melt in less than a week. While ALL my neighbors get outside right away to push away that 1″ of snow and stay on top of it until it stops I sit in my warm house. When it melts in a few days I laugh and call myself the winner on the block remembering how they all froze and did the “right” and neighborly thing by keeping their walks nice and clean so people can have a pleasant walk about. If you don’t like walking in snow stay your ass inside.

paczki

Well today I did something I’ve not done in quite a while. I ate a paczki that was custard filled and worth every 800 or so calories. My eating has been good so this is just a treat to celebrate my good habits. Eating it did bring a level of regret but it’s not like I’m suddenly back at eating whatever I want and I don’t even have that desire.

it was free and good

Being a lover of coffee, and somewhat of a coffee snob, I would never give the machines in our break room a chance in hell knowing what came out would be a putrid watered down broth. For me coffee has to have a smooth taste and must be created using proper beans. The variety offered in the machines must be like the apples used to make cider, old and not something to be used or sold in any form that might allow the customer to see what goes in. Oh I’ve seen where cider is made and how a shovel is used to pick up the filthy, half rotten, apples off the equally filthy floor. There’s no way a vending machine would offer anything resembling quality black gold.

Last week, to celebrate the grand opening of yet another break room, the vendors offered free drinks from the coffee machine for a week. The only thing I was remotely interested in was the hot chocolate which was of course drained before I got a chance. A coworker that sits in the cube next to mine was drinking coffee and it smelled really good which got my coffee itch going full force. I mentioned my need for coffee and she said the machine had free coffee that tasted pretty decent. My reaction was to stick my letter opener in her eye and twist. Well that’s what I wanted to do anyway.  Being completely desperate I figured what the hell, it’s free so what do I have to loose. If it tastes like I think it will I will just dump it on her head, a win win. So we made our way to the break room and she suggested the Cafe Latte w/sugar. I entered the three digit code and the cup dropped into place held by encrusted metal spatulas. The machine made a sound like it was grinding the beans, and maybe it was, followed by liquid dripping and beeping sound indicating the delicious beverage was ready to “enjoy.”

Taking the cup I wasted no time tasting the coffee and hoping for something at least tolerable. To my surprise I found it to be a little more than tolerable, in fact it was strangely good. No good like a smooth cup of coffee from a coffee shop but good like a coffee you would drink in a metal shop or some place that involved oil, rubber and stamping machines. I walked back to my department, finished off the cup, and found myself craving that weird machine like taste again.

Today is the second day I’ve paid 75 cents for something I vowed to stay away from.

week three

Entering my third week of the growth accelerator workout and once again I’m mixing up the days. This week I plan to workout on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with perhaps one day of cardio. My plan was to implement cardio into my workout schedule but it’s not something I’ve stuck with up to this point. At first I had a workout partner on the weekends which worked great but for whatever reason we’ve not been to the gym together in a while. So far I’m very happy with the results I’ve seen as my body fat has no doubt gone down with my muscle mass going up slightly. By the beginning of next month I plan to get another assessment to see where my numbers are except cardio, I know that still sucks.

My eating has been pretty good for a while now with staying away from an excess of junk food or things that don’t add much value to my diet. The only true weakness I have right now is Starbucks almond vanilla latte which to be honest is something I WILL continue to enjoy for as long as they have the almond. After that I’ll have to consider other options but I’m not saying that choice will be really good either. Really I don’t want to completely limit myself to only healthy food because that’s just not realistic for me and would probably result in things slipping back to the way they were with a really bad diet.
